The Brushing Process
The distinct texture of a No.4 plate is achieved through a mechanical polishing process. The surface is brushed with a 150–180 grit abrasive belt, which creates a uniform, directional pattern. The resulting texture consists of fine, short, non-directional satin lines. This specific grit range is carefully chosen to ensure the surface is smooth enough for sanitary cleaning while remaining coarse enough to diffuse light effectively.
Aesthetic and Functional Characteristics
Visually, the No.4 finish offers a softer luster than the HL (Hairline) finish.
